About product

Yakovlev Yak-9T TFace mask set in 1:32 from Eduard

This is a mask set from the Czech maker Eduard, not a kit. It contains pre-cut masks of fine masking tape that are stuck onto the cockpit framing and onto the other glazed areas of a Yakovlev Yak-9T model in 1:32. The TFace marking means that the set deals with the glazing from both sides: the masks go on outside and inside, so the cockpit frame can be in the interior color within and in the camouflage shade without. The shape of the masks follows the framing of that particular model, which does away with the slow business of cutting tape by eye.

The real subject

The Yak-9T was a heavily armed variant of the Soviet Yak-9 fighter of the Second World War period. Its distinguishing feature was a large-caliber cannon firing through the hollow propeller shaft, which pushed the pilot's cockpit back. Yak airframes combined a metal frame with wooden and fabric-covered parts, and power came from a liquid-cooled Klimov V12 engine. Machines of this line served above all on the Eastern Front.

Masking and painting tips

Lift the masks off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers, so that they do not curl. Before sticking them on, only wipe the glazing with a soft dry cloth and do not touch it with your fingers. Press the edges of the mask down with a toothpick, or paint will run under them. Spray several light coats instead of one heavy one. With the inner masks it makes sense to start with the interior color and only then close the model up. Pull the mask off while the paint is dry to the touch but not yet fully cured, and draw it back over itself at a sharp angle.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want sharp and even cockpit framing without cutting tape by hand
  • Builders in the large 1:32 scale, where every inaccuracy in the frame shows at first glance
  • Anyone interested in Soviet fighter aircraft of the Second World War
  • Those who want the cockpit frame to be the right color when seen from inside too

The set is neither a model nor a kit; it is an add-on to a model sold separately. The paints and the glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a set of masking templates, that is an add-on to a Yak-9T model in 1:32, which you have to get separately.

TFace means that the set contains masks for both sides of the glazing. You mask the cockpit outside and inside, and the frame can carry the interior color within.

Best of all at the moment when the paint is dry to the touch but not yet fully cured. Draw the mask back slowly over itself at a sharp angle.

Yes, the paints, the thinner and the model itself are not included in the package. Tweezers, a sharp scalpel and a toothpick for pressing the edges down all come in handy.
