The Skoda 706 RO is a Czechoslovak bus of the first post-war generation of the 706 line, the predecessor of the later and better-known 706 RTO type. Vehicles of this line formed the backbone of long-distance and intercity transport after the war and ran at home long after their successors had taken over the main services. The rounded contours of the body are characteristic and differ clearly from the more angular shapes of the later buses.
This is a plastic kit in 1:43 scale, the usual collector scale for road vehicles. A bus in it comes out noticeably longer than a passenger car, so it makes a prominent item in a cabinet. For a collection of Czechoslovak vehicles it is a subject that appears in model form rather rarely.
The rounded surfaces of the body call for careful sanding: sand away traces of manufacture and smooth the surface with fine paper, or every irregularity will show in a gloss finish. Lay the paint on in thin coats, so that the outlines of the windows and the trim strips stay readable. Fit the glazing only once the paint is dry and with a small amount of adhesive, so that the clear parts do not go dull.
The set is for collectors of Czechoslovak vehicles and buses and for modelers who want a shorter build with a result for a cabinet. It also looks good beside trucks of the same period.
