Woodgrain Decal, Aircraft, fine interior wood textures (USCHI van der Rosten)

A decal sheet aimed at wood in aircraft interiors, not a kit. It holds fine drawings of wood structure intended for places such as cockpit floors and side walls, wooden panels and the stripwood parts of an airframe, typical above all of First World War and interwar aircraft. The texture is printed on a very thin clear film which disappears once it is varnished over and leaves only a faithful drawing of the growth rings. The sheet is tuned for 1:32 and 1:48, that is for the scales where wood in a cockpit really shows. The maker is the German brand USCHI van der Rosten, which popularized the imitation of wood by means of decals.

Use

• Spray the base in a basic wood tone (ocher to light brown): it shows through the film and sets the final shade.
• Measure the strip out with masking tape laid on the part and cut an exact piece.
• Apply it as a wet decal; a decal softener beds it into the detail and the edges.
• Run the direction of the grain along the planks or the veneer, following the real subject.
• Fix it with varnish (matte for an interior); the film practically vanishes with that.

For builders of aircraft in 1:32 and 1:48 who want realistic wood in a cockpit without the long job of layered painting. The fineness of the grain is chosen for exactly these small interior areas.
