B-26B Marauder - double-sided painting mask (1:48)

An accurately cut self-adhesive painting mask in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. It is neither a model nor decals but a set of masks in kabuki film to protect the glazing and other appointed parts while spraying. The form is double-sided: it covers the outside and the inside of the clear parts, so the canopy frames come out from both views. The individual masks are numbered and, together with the instructions, set unambiguously where each one goes. The numbered pieces match the glazing of the ICM kit.

The real subject

The Martin B-26 Marauder was an American twin-engine medium bomber of the Second World War, known for its high speed and for the broken-up glazing of its nose, cockpit and gun positions. The extensive glazing makes masking by hand a slow business, which accurate masks speed up markedly.

Use

• Lift the mask off by its number and stick it onto the matching clear part
• Go over it with an airbrush or a brush in the color of the frames and the cockpit
• Once dry, remove the mask and you have crisp transitions with no bleed
• Lay the paint on in thin coats, so that no ridges form
