This Star Decals set in 1:35 scale is aimed at the American M4A3E8 Sherman tanks of the Korean War period. According to the name it covers the machines of the 89th Tk Bn and part of it is the conspicuous tiger design painted on the front of the hull. It is a marking set on its own, not a kit.
The Sherman in its M4A3E8 form, nicknamed the Easy Eight, combined HVSS suspension with wide tracks and a 76 mm gun. In Korea it made up the backbone of the American tank battalions, which supported the infantry in mountainous and muddy terrain, where the fighting was often for individual hilltops. The painted tiger jaws on the front faces are among the most conspicuous features of the Shermans there and they give a model an instantly recognizable character.
A large painted design stands out on a smooth gloss base; matte base paint invites silvering at the edges. On intricate places, such as the lugs of the towing eyes or welds, a decal softener and a fine nick of the design with a scalpel will help. Once it has dried, even the surface out with a matte varnish and only then lay on dust and mud effects, so that the markings fit into the overall weathering.
