The second part of the numbered series of Star Decals decals in 1:35 scale holds generic insignia and unit markings for German assault guns. The set is usable across the types that fall under this kind of hardware - from the early variants with a boxy superstructure to the later machines with a howitzer. The kit is not included.
Assault guns were built in a long series of versions and their look changed markedly during the war, yet the markings of the units stayed fairly constant. One sheet therefore serves several part-built models: you add the battalion insignia to an older machine as well as a newer one, and a display cabinet gains an inner logic thanks to that, because the vehicles look like part of one whole rather than a random collection.
The basic shades shifted during the war from gray to dark yellow with brown and green patterning. Across the boundary of two camouflage colors, lay the markings down only after a coat of gloss varnish, otherwise the edge will readily lift on the sharp line of the spray. On rougher castings, such as the rounded gun mantlet, reach for a softener and divide the design. Then matte the fixed markings down together with the whole vehicle.
