The third sheet of the Vietnam series from Star Decals leaves tracked hardware behind and aims at the wheeled armored vehicles of the army of South Vietnam. Besides the V-100 Commando armored car and the older Greyhound it covers further vehicles that served alongside them with the units.
The V-100 Commando was a four-wheeled armored vehicle with high ground clearance, an amphibious hull and a small turret with machine guns. It came into being for escorting convoys and for patrol duty on the roads, where tracked hardware paid off less. The Greyhound, against it, represented an older six-wheeled design from the Second World War with a 37mm gun in the turret. Both types met in South Vietnamese service with the security and reconnaissance units. It is precisely the combination of age and role that makes wheeled armored vehicles a rewarding modeling theme on this battlefield.
Wheeled vehicles have, in a small scale, plenty of rounded edges and projections. Lay a drawing so that its center settles first and the edges are drawn down only afterwards, otherwise a fold will arise. Before laying it down, try out dry exactly where the design will fall, because on a curved area a few tenths of a millimeter show.
