The SX-Art set of masks is cut for the Russian amphibious BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle in 1:35 scale, with Zvezda as the target kit. It serves to cover the transparent and glossy areas while the paint goes onto the model; the vehicle itself is not in the package.
The BMP-3 entered service at the end of the 1980s and differs from its predecessors above all in its armament: in a single turret it carries a short-barreled 100 mm gun, an automatic 30 mm cannon beside it and a machine gun. The engine is at the rear, the hull is welded from aluminum alloys and the vehicle can swim. It is precisely because of the low silhouette that the model has a host of small vision ports and periscopes which are hard to brush in by hand. The vehicle remains in service to this day and has gone through several modernizations, so the same type appears in very different configurations.
On Russian vehicles a three-tone camouflage is often sprayed, in which two or three shades are laid over one another, so the mask has to hold in place the whole time, not just for the first coat. Keep the thinning at around one half; thick paint builds a ridge on the edge of the mask which looks like a step once the mask comes off. When the coat is finished and dry, take the mask off before you start on the wash.
