1:35 Indian Wars Series, kit No.1. Apache Attack

The real subject

This set opens a range devoted to the Indian Wars, that is the long succession of clashes between native tribes and settlers with the army in the southwest of the present-day United States in the nineteenth century. In them the Apache became famous as masters of the swift raid: they attacked out of terrain they knew perfectly and vanished before their opponent could form up. The scene captures exactly such a moment, with the warriors charging toward the target of their attack with their rifles.

What the set contains

Two figures of Apache warriors with rifles and a horse, with one of the men in the saddle. The parts are on injection-molded sprues, are joined with cement for polystyrene, and the figures are painted once assembled. Before gluing, check that the arms and torso seat properly so that the stance looks natural.

Building and painting tips

• Prime the figures first, or the shades of skin and cloth will cover less well.
• Build the skin up in several thin coats and add the shadow gradually, not all at once.
• Paint the horse separately from the rider and glue them together only once the finish is done.
• Unify the weapons in a dark metal shade and bring the wood of the stocks to life with fine glazing.

Who it is for

The set is intended for builders of figures and dioramas in 1:35 scale who are looking for a subject away from the usual military vehicles. It also serves well as a standalone scene on a small base, where the movement of both figures and the horse stands out. Paints, glue, a base and groundwork accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
