This plastic kit in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker IBG Models combines the Italian 3Ro heavy truck with the 100/17 100 mm howitzer. The model rests on new molds, and in the package it is completed by photo-etched parts, decals and a metal barrel for the gun. In its demands it is an assembly aimed rather at a more advanced modeler: the chassis is busy, the engine is worked out in detail and both the hood and the cab doors can be built open.
The 3Ro was the main heavy truck of the Italian army during the Second World War. It was powered by a five-cylinder diesel engine, and the vehicles were built in civil and military form from the end of the 1930s. Several thousand came about in many conversions, from a flatbed through troop and horse transport to a tank transporter and a tanker. They were used in the Balkans, in North Africa and on the Eastern Front, and after 1943 the German army took over a number of them, while captured examples served with Allied units as well. The howitzer of 100 mm caliber with a barrel 17 calibers long was part of the standard armament of Italian divisional artillery battalions.
Start with the chassis frame and the drivetrain, and seat the cab and the cargo bed only on a finished frame, otherwise it is harder to get the wheels level. Bend the photo-etched parts, above all the fine cables, on a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint and accent the engine and the inside of the cab before you close them up. The basic Italian shade tends to be a light sand, and on vehicles taken over by the German army dark yellow comes into consideration. Build the weathering up in layers: first a dark wash into the corners, then dust and mud with pigments on the wheels, the fenders and the underside of the body.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
