The sixth number of the marching range from Dynamo-Models, carried in 1:35 scale. The range is fairly long and the individual numbers follow on from each other, so a genuine column can be put together from them. This is a figure, that is an accessory to a scene or to a finished model, not a vehicle kit.
Scale 1:35 is the industry standard for ground vehicles, and a figure in it fills a role the model itself cannot manage: it gives the viewer a comparison. Without a human figure the eye can hardly take in how tall a cargo bed was, how narrow a road or how low the entrance to a yard. A marching figure also adds direction - a column leads the viewer's eye through the scene and sets out where the story begins and where it ends. It therefore pays off to think about the placing of the figures before the first layer of terrain goes down.
Place the figure in the scene dry and look at it from the viewer's eye level, not from above. Only from that angle can you tell whether the figure leads the eye in the right direction. In color keep the uniform in muted khaki and save the contrast for the leather of the straps and for the face - those are what has to read first over a small area. Flow the shadow into the folds with thin paint in small doses, so that the area does not go black. At the end tie the figure in with the terrain using dust derived from the color of the base.
