The kit 1:35 Vietnamese Saigon shuttle tricar with the driver and passengers from Gecko Models captures a civilian means of transport of South Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s. Besides the vehicle, the box holds figures.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the three-wheeled vehicle that served as cheap mass transport in the streets of South Vietnam. It is a new mold from 2023, and besides the vehicle the package also holds figures of the driver and the passengers, parts in clear plastic, a photo-etched fret and decals. A civilian subject offers a welcome change from military vehicles and at the same time fits into a wartime diorama without effort.
Motor tricars replaced the earlier animal-drawn carts in South Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s and became an ordinary part of city traffic. A light frame, a small engine and a simple body of sheet metal and canvas meant low running costs, which outweighed comfort. The vehicles usually ran overcrowded, and their varied paint schemes and lettering were as characteristic as the shape itself.
Thin frame sections are prone to bending when they are cut out, so separate them with enough of the sprue gate left on and do the final sanding away from the fret. Paint the interior before the body is closed up. Variety is rewarding here: a city vehicle takes richer shades, worn edges, dusty fenders and scuffed paint around the boarding area. Deal with the figures after the vehicle, so that you can adapt their posture to their real place in the cab.
Neither the vehicle nor the figures come pre-glued or painted: both are work that still awaits the modeler.
