A detail set of miniature weapons in 1:35 scale. According to the name it holds six AK-74 assault rifles and a transport crate to go with them. It is not a vehicle kit and not a figure, but an accessory for finishing off vehicle interiors, weapon racks, figure equipment and diorama scenes. Small arms tend to be the weakest spot of mass-produced kits, because injection-molded plastic will not hold thin sights or a cut-out magazine.
The AK-74 is a Soviet assault rifle introduced in the mid-1970s. It differs from the older design mainly in the switch to a lighter round of smaller caliber, which improved controllability in bursts and let the soldier carry more ammunition. Its recognition features are the prominent muzzle brake and the lighter magazine. The weapon saw action in Afghanistan and in the post-Soviet conflicts and serves to this day in modernized versions, so it suits dioramas from the 1980s up to the present. The transport crate is a rewarding accessory for scenes with resupply and the issuing of weapons.
These are very small parts, so separate them with a sharp scalpel or a saw and work over a tray so that a piece does not disappear on you. Wash the parts and apply a thin coat of primer before painting, as paint otherwise holds badly on a smooth surface. Set the grips and handguards in a different tone from the metal parts and tie the whole thing together by picking out the recesses in a dark shade. A dry brush in a steel shade along the edges will give the weapons a used look.
