A detail set of miniature weapons in 1:35 scale. According to the name it holds six pieces of the shortened AKSU assault rifle, in the version with a tourniquet mounted directly on the weapon. That is the detail which sets the set apart from the ordinary version of the same weapon and which moves the scene into the present day. It is not a kit and not a figure, but an accessory for figure scenes, vehicle crews and dioramas.
AKSU is the commonly used designation of the shortened version of the AK-74 assault rifle. The compact weapon with a very short barrel, a bulky muzzle device and a folding stock was created for vehicle crews, artillerymen and paratroopers, that is wherever a full-size rifle would be in the way. A tourniquet, the strap used to stop heavy bleeding quickly, is part of a soldier's basic kit in today's conflicts and tends to be fastened somewhere easy to reach, often on the weapon itself or on the sling. Caught on a miniature it looks tiny, but it carries a lot of weight for the credibility of a modern scene.
Separate the weapons with a sharp scalpel over a tray and level the flash off with a fine file. Wash the surface and apply a thin primer before painting. It pays to paint the tourniquet on its own and to set it clearly apart from the weapon, as it would otherwise be lost in a dark shade. Pick the recesses out with a dark tone, run a dry brush lightly along the edges of the metal parts and finally add fine dust to the lower areas.
