The LVT-4 (Landing Vehicle Tracked) was an American amphibious carrier, nicknamed the Water Buffalo. Compared with the earlier LVT-2 it had its engine moved forward behind the driver's cab, which freed up a large cargo space at the rear and allowed a folding rear ramp to be added. In the water it was driven by specially shaped track links, and on land it moved like an ordinary tracked vehicle. It carried troops or cargo from ships straight onto the shore and was widely committed in landing operations in the Pacific and in Europe.
Assemble the running gear with its characteristic tracks and finish the interior of the cargo space before you close the hull. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic, and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). With an amphibian it pays to suggest the waterline: darken the surfaces below it and add algae and water deposits, and bring out chipped paint above it. Apply a base coat (primer), spray with an airbrush and fine-tune the weathering with a wash and pigments.
