This set from the brand SX-Art is not a kit of the tank but an accessory to it. It is made up of self-adhesive film with a holographic effect prepared for the periscopes of the commander's cupola, the vision ports and the sighting instruments of a model of the AMX 50B in 1:35 scale. Molded lenses in kits come across as flat and dead; in their place the film creates a surface that changes color with the angle of view and reflects the light.
The AMX 50B is a French heavy tank of the first postwar years that never reached series production. Characteristic of it is an oscillating turret with an autoloader and a massive gun of large caliber. It went no further than prototypes, yet it is a popular subject, because the machine combines a robust hull with an unusual turret design. The vision ports on the commander's cupola and the sighting optics are clearly apparent in its silhouette, and it is exactly those that this set brings to life.
Work only on a finished model whose paint has dried and is sealed with varnish. Lift the elements with the tip of a scalpel, carry them with tweezers and press them down, and do not touch the adhesive surfaces with your fingers. If you paint the surface under the film in a dark color in advance, the glint will be stronger. Trim small overhangs with a scalpel once they have dried. Finish the weathering, the washes and the pigments before you put the film on, otherwise the holographic surface would fog over and the effect would disappear.
