A 1:35 accessory set for a model of the Australian Bushmaster protected wheeled vehicle. It is not a model of the vehicle but an accessory for it, with which the modeler completes a finished machine into the shape the vehicles really had on operational deployment.
The Bushmaster is an Australian 4x4 wheeled vehicle designed as a protected means of carrying troops. It came about in Australia and is still built there; its design rests on a shaped hull floor and a raised body, which are meant to deflect the blast wave from an improvised explosive device or a mine. It is exactly that toughness that earned the vehicle a reputation as a machine that gets its crew home. The Bushmaster served with Australian units in Iraq and in Afghanistan, other armies operated it as well, and more recently it was delivered to Ukraine. The vehicle exists in several versions, from a troop carrier through a command variant to ambulance and engineer versions. In the field it tends to be covered with personal kit, supplies and protective items, because the space inside is reserved above all for the troops.
Let the accessories follow the color scheme of the base vehicle so that the whole thing holds together. Textile and canvas surfaces gain depth from a darker wash that runs into the folds, followed by a fine lightening of the high points. Metal parts, by contrast, take a discreet rubbing through. On the wheels and the lower hull a dust pigment in the shade of the setting you want to evoke will help, one for dry desert country and another for a muddy road. Plan the arrangement of the accessories in advance from period photographs and the result will be more believable.
