The M.98 mortar belonged to the heavy siege artillery of the Austro-Hungarian army at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Weapons of this category were characterized by a short barrel of large caliber, a steep trajectory and a low muzzle velocity, thanks to which they sent the shell down onto a target from above. They were used against permanent fortifications, where the flat trajectory of field guns was not enough. Because of their weight they were moved dismantled and assembled at the firing position, usually on a massive base that spread the recoil.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that any mold release agent is removed, otherwise paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter; do not snap them. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue, with an accelerator if needed. Use airway protection when sanding, and ideally sand wet. Apply a primer before painting to even the resin out. The metal surfaces of the barrel and the mounting come alive with a dark graphite pencil, and on wood and earth use washes and pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
