About product

Belgian armored car crewman with binoculars, 1:35 — Copper State Models

A resin figure in 1:35 scale from Copper State Models. The figure is modeled standing with binoculars to his eyes, that is, in a pose with a clear function in a scene: it gives the viewer a direction to look and ties the figure to its surroundings. The uniform matches the First World War period, and the casting is listed as an accessory for models of armored cars in the same scale.

The casting and the casting blocks

The figure is cast in resin and divided into several parts, typically the torso, the head, the arms and small items of kit. Before building, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap — mold release agent clings to the surface and without washing the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw or a cutting disc at a distance from the part and level the remainder with a file. Sand wet rather than dry and protect your breathing, as resin dust is very fine. The joints are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic will not join resin. Fill small gaps at the shoulders with a drop of thicker cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part putty and sand them down, so that the run of the cloth continues smoothly.

Painting and placing it in a scene

A primer coat is essential with resin: it evens the surface out and brings out small bubbles, which are better dealt with before the final coat. Build the uniform up in coats from the base tone toward shadows and highlights, and paint the face separately in good light. Finish the hands and the binoculars last, because they carry the viewer's gaze. Before gluing, stand the figure dry beside the model and find the spot where both the stance and the direction of the gaze suit the rest of the scene — with a single figure it is the placing that decides the result. The exact number of parts and the dimensions are stated on the packaging.

Who the figure is for

  • Builders of dioramas in 1:35 scale with armored cars
  • Modelers who want to give a vehicle a human scale reference
  • More experienced modelers with experience of resin
  • Collectors who paint individual figures for a display case

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not; it is a resin casting. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not hold.

Resin figures tend to be divided into the torso, the head, the arms and the kit. The exact number of parts is stated on the packaging.

Because of the mold release agent. Without washing, the paint takes badly and peels off in time.

Count on this being the figure on its own. The contents of the package are stated on its packaging.
