The larger form of the column base from Black Dog is aimed at modelers for whom a small scene is no longer enough. In 1:35 scale it offers enough room for several figures to meet on the base, or for hardware to join a figure. It is not a kit of a structure but a ready ground on which your own display will take place.
As the base grows, so do the possibilities of composition. You can work with the distance between figures, with two figures facing each other, or with an empty space that says something by itself. The column motif meanwhile holds the scene together as a vertical anchor, so a loosened composition does not fall apart into randomly placed items.
Paint a large area with an airbrush or at least a broad brush, otherwise visible transitions will appear. Start with a darker base that you leave in the recesses and add the lighter tones from above. So that the surface does not look monotonous, play it out with irregular patches of glaze. To even the whole thing out, then go over the scene with a very thin filter, which levels the differences between the individually painted areas.
