British vehicles in the war almost never looked as if they had come from a factory. Rolled capes, blankets, backpacks and the crews' personal belongings piled up on the fenders, the beds and the sides, because the space inside was precious. It is exactly this layer that modelers most often miss on models. Accumulated kit breaks up the smooth outline of a vehicle, gives the silhouette irregularity and at the same time gives away that the model has a crew and a history.
British kit rests on khaki and olive tones, but never in a single shade: canvas faded to different degrees side by side looks more natural than a unified color. A dark wash will bring out the folds, and dry brushing in a lighter tone will pull out the raised edges. Paint the straps and the buckles separately; even a small difference in color raises readability markedly. Think the placement through in advance: kit belongs where the crew really stowed it, that is on the fenders, at the rear and at the stowage spaces, not evenly over the whole vehicle.
