About product

The British helmet Mk I in 1:35 scale

An accessory for a figure in 1:35 scale. It contains the helmet alone, which you put on a figure's head, or leave lying beside it, on a crate or on the edge of a trench. It is neither a figure nor a model but a small part for conversions and for bringing a scene to life.

The real subject

The British steel helmet Mk I, commonly called the Brodie in English, has an unmistakable shape. The shallow dome and the wide flat rim around its whole circumference set it apart from continental helmets at first glance, because they protected mainly against fragments falling from above. British units and the armies of the Commonwealth countries used it, and with modifications it stayed in service for a very long time, so it suits figures of the First as well as the Second World War.

Fitting, cleaning up and painting

In 1:35 scale the casting is small, so work with tweezers and over a surface. Cut the casting residue off with a sharp knife or a fine saw, sand the surface down carefully and wash the part in lukewarm water with a detergent, so that no release agent stays on the surface. It is glued with a drop of super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick. Spray the primer and the paint in thin layers, as the wide rim of the helmet is an area on which a thick layer is noticed at once. After the base shade, put a wash under the rim and at the chin strap, draw the edge of the rim out gently with a dry brush and close the whole with a matte varnish. If you plan a burlap cover or netting, count on your own material, as the casting is smooth.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of 1:35 figures of the First and the Second World War
  • Dioramas with set-aside equipment, where a helmet lies away from a figure
  • Conversions of figures and the replacement of the original headgear
  • Modelers who unify the equipment across a group of figures

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Glue, paints and the figure are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No, it is the helmet alone as an accessory for a figure. You obtain the figure separately.

By the shallow dome and the wide flat rim around its whole circumference. The silhouette is distinctly different from German or Soviet helmets.

In thin layers. The wide rim is a continuous area on which a thick layer shows at once, so deal with the shadow by a wash rather than another layer of paint.

The casting is smooth. If you want a cover or netting, count on your own material.
