This set from the PANZER ART brand is tied to British infantry in Normandy, that is to the summer of 1944. It is a figure accessory to kits and dioramas in 1:35 scale, not a model of a vehicle. The figures will give a scene the story and the dimension that equipment on a base alone never has.
The Normandy countryside was then characterized by a dense network of field tracks lined with high hedgerows on earth banks. This terrain, locally called bocage, markedly limited both the view and movement, and events in it took place at short range. For a modeler it is a rewarding setting: a piece of track and a bank with dense growth are enough and the scene immediately gains character.
A uniform of British cut comes into its own if you are not satisfied with a single shade. Add fine variations to the base, so that the cloth does not come across as smooth plastic. Woolen material should not shine, so leave the surface matte and bring out only the edges. Apply a dusty trace from the bottom upward and let it thin out. Choose the greenery around rather muted; a rich shade in a small scale comes across as unnatural. It also proves its worth to leave the footwear and the lower part of the trousers markedly dirty, as the contrast with a cleaner upper half gives the figure conviction.
