About product

1:35 Royal Armoured Corps soldier refueling (North Africa, variant No. 1)

A separate figure cast in resin in 1:35 from the PANZER ART brand. It is not a vehicle kit but an add-on for a diorama — and unlike a standing figure, this one has a clearly defined activity: refueling. Figures like this fit into a scene differently from a mere sentry by a vehicle; they need a partner in the form of a vehicle model, jerry cans or a drum, so that their posture makes sense. Resin holds the sharp folds of light clothing, which in a North African setting is looser than a European uniform. The variant marking in the name tells the individual figures within the same line apart.

Preparing the casting

Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap — a residue of mold release agent would otherwise keep the paint from holding. Separate the casting block with a saw leaving a margin and sand the remainder down with a file; work wet or with a respirator and do not breathe in resin dust. On a figure with a pronounced activity, check how the hands sit against the accessory you want to put into them, and adjust the joint if need be. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and the gel version gives time to line things up. Apply a primer before painting.

Painting and placing in the scene

A light sand tone of the clothing is the basis; create the volume with glazes — darker into the folds, fine lightening of the raised areas. In a desert scene it pays to lower the contrast a little and to add dust instead: fine pigment on the boots, the lower hem of the trousers and the hands settles the figure into its setting at once. Paint the skin separately and leave it noticeably warmer and darker than in a European scene. Finish the metal parts of the accessories, such as the caps and handles of containers, with a dark steel color and fine lightening of the edges. Bring the whole figure together with a matte clear coat and return the gloss only at points, for example as a sheen of sweat on the forehead.

Who the figure is for

  • builders of dioramas with British equipment in a North African setting
  • modelers who want a figure with a particular activity in a scene, not just a standing one
  • anyone interested in painting light desert clothing and dusty wear

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The vehicle, paints, glue and a base are not included in the package.

FAQ

Royal Armoured Corps, that is the British armored corps. The figure represents one of its men in a North African setting.

Count on a figure; check any accessories against the illustration on the packaging, or add them from a separate set.

A base sand tone, then glazes — darker into the folds, lighter onto the raised places. Keep the contrast lower than in a European scene and add dust with pigment on the boots and the hem of the trousers.

Wash it in water with dish soap because of the mold release agent, separate the casting block with a saw, sand it down wet or with a respirator, glue it with cyanoacrylate glue and spray a primer.
