1:35 British WWII 77 mm Tank Gun Ammo for Comet A34 Tank

The real subject

The gun designated 77 mm HV was carried by the British Comet cruiser tank, which reached the units at the close of the Second World War. The number in the designation is a little misleading: the barrel is in fact of 76.2 mm caliber, and the weapon was given a different figure so that neither the crews nor the supply chain would confuse it with other guns of the same caliber whose ammunition was not interchangeable. Against the 17-pounder, with which it shares the diameter of the projectile, it has a shorter and lighter case. In a cramped turret a round like that is easier to handle and the loader passes it along faster, which on a tank with a high rate of fire was a substantial difference.

What the set offers

The set brings ammunition for the 77 mm HV gun in 1:35 scale. It shows to best effect on a model with an open turret or an exposed fighting compartment, but it also serves well loose in a scene around a vehicle where a crew is replenishing a stock.

• Rounds for the 77 mm HV gun in 1:35 scale
• The real subject is the armament of the Comet cruiser tank
• A shorter case than the 17-pounder's at the same projectile diameter
• The number and make-up of the parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part, sand the remainder off and level the base of the case, so that a round stands straight. Wash and degrease them before painting and choose the glue according to the material of the parts; super glue will serve universally. Make the difference between a metal case and a painted projectile with shine rather than with shade, and let a weak dark wash run to the rim of the base, so that the rounds do not read as flat.

Who it is for

For builders of late-war British vehicles in 1:35 scale and for makers of scenes with an open vehicle. Paints and glue are not included in the box, unless stated otherwise.
