A detailing set in photo-etched metal in 1:35 scale for a model of the Canadian eight-wheeled LAV III armored vehicle in the TUA version, that is with an anti-tank missile system mounted under armor. The set is not a kit of the vehicle: it is an accessory that replaces thick plastic grilles, loops and clips with fine metal parts and adds the small external equipment on which scale thickness shows at first glance.
The LAV III is a wheeled armored vehicle in an eight by eight layout, undemanding in amphibious terms, which forms the backbone of the Canadian mechanized units. The version designated TUA carries, instead of the standard gun turret, a retractable launcher for anti-tank guided missiles, which in the travel position is hidden under an armored cover and is raised only for firing. The vehicle thus fills the role of a mobile destroyer of armored equipment that can fire from cover and change its firing position quickly.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel against a hard surface, not with cutters. Longer straight bends can only be managed by a photo-etch bending tool; on small parts two pairs of flat pliers are enough. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing, otherwise neither the glue nor the paint will hold. Use cyanoacrylate glue for the joints, and on larger areas an epoxy with a longer setting time. A base coat for metal is a necessity on this equipment: modern Canadian vehicles are painted in a uniform shade, so every chipped photo-etched part shows. Keep the weathering restrained: dust and a light dusting of the lower areas look more natural on wheeled equipment than heavy mud effects.
