An injection-molded plastic kit of the Chinese Type 59-D main battle tank from Trumpeter in 1:35 scale. The model captures the modernized version fitted with explosive reactive armor (ERA) on the turret and the hull. It is an older tooling with a generous supply of parts, from which usable items are left over for related tanks as well. The exact number of parts is given in the instructions enclosed in the package.
The Type 59 was a Chinese main battle tank based on the Soviet T-54A, produced for long decades in large numbers. The Type 59-D version represents its late modernization: it adds layers of reactive armor for increased protection against shaped-charge ammunition, a more powerful gun and improved fire control. The tank thus stayed combat-capable even at a time when the original design of the 1950s was no longer enough.
The parts are injection-molded from plastic and are glued with ordinary cement for plastic; the plastic is harder, so work with a sharp knife. Complete the running gear and the lower hull before closing it up. Bring out the blocks of reactive armor with separate toning and shadows in the gaps. A uniform green or a period Chinese camouflage suits the tank, completed with a wash, dust and a dry brush on the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
