This item is an accessory for building a diorama, not a model of a structure. According to the name it contains three pieces of Romanesque church windows in 1:35 scale and this is version number 3, that is the last of the numbered three that RT-Diorama offers for this type of window.

Stone that has to look like stone

With sacred architecture it is the painting of the masonry that decides the result. Real stone never has one color: neighboring blocks differ in shade, on the south side it tends to be lighter, near the ground it darkens with damp and the joints fill with dust and moss over time. When all these layers are managed, a small window with a semicircular head suddenly looks ancient and the scene gains a depth that the shape of the part alone will not provide. So it pays to paint the whole wall and the window at once and to unify them only with the closing layers.

Painting and assembly tips

• Lay the base tone in the lightest shade and add the darker layers step by step; the opposite order is harder to control.
• Tell the individual blocks around the window slightly apart with diluted shades, so that no uniform area arises.
• Run a dark wash into the joints and draw the excess off downward with a damp brush.
• Drybrushing in a light tone along the edges will bring out the arrises and the texture of the stone.
