The Black Dog brand released this ground as the second version of the column subject. It is a small scenic ground on which an architectural column stands, and it serves to display a figure or a small model in 1:35 scale. It has nothing to do with a vehicle kit.
Most dioramas suffer from everything being spread out flat, with nowhere for the eye to climb. A column solves that shortcoming in the simplest way there is. It puts a vertical into the display, one a figure can lean on, one that can be walked around and that at the same time hides the less successful side of a model. With display cases viewed from every side it is a very practical aid.
Against other motifs, a column has large continuous surfaces on which every imperfection shows. It is therefore worth spraying the base thinly twice rather than heavily once. Set the column apart in color from the ground, otherwise the display merges into a uniform gray. Apply a dark shade into the flutes, pull the excess down vertically and run a lighter dry brush carefully over the edges. Keep the patina down near the ground, because up above the rain would wash the dirt away.
