1:35 Cooker

A cooking stove in 1:35 scale for a diorama

A scenic accessory for an interior scene in 1:35 scale. A cooking stove belongs in the kitchens of houses, in field kitchens and in the improvised quarters that crews set up in abandoned buildings. It is not a vehicle kit and not a finished model but one piece of equipment for a scene, which you clean up, paint and seat on the base yourself.

What the accessory is for

Kitchen equipment is among the most rewarding elements of an interior diorama. A viewer recognizes it at once, so it gives a scene scale and legibility, and at the same time it offers room for the weathering you cannot use on clean machinery. A cooking stove will take soot, grease, chipped enamel and rust, so one small part can be turned into a striking point of a scene. The 1:35 scale is the distinguishing detail: the same subject also comes out in further scales and they are not interchangeable.

Tips for working and painting

• Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry thoroughly.
• Cut the flash and any casting residue off with a scalpel and level the face with fine abrasive paper.
• Lay the primer down in a thin coat, so that the engraved detail of the hob and the door does not disappear.
• You can imitate cast iron with a dark gray paint and a fine dry brush in a graphite shade on the edges.
• Do the soot around the hob and the flue with a black pigment applied dry, and the greasy marks with a dark wash.

Who the accessory is for

• Builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale
• Modelers who furnish house interiors and field quarters
• Figure painters looking for an element for a scene that is easy to read and easy to weather

This is a scenic accessory, not a kit. Paints, glue, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
