A 1:35 scene on the subject of a destroyed Soviet BT-7 tank offers a starting terrain for a display from the first months of the fighting in the east.
Responsibility details are not available.
This scenic base from the Black Dog diorama offering works with the subject of a knocked-out Soviet fast tank. It serves as a ground that the modeler completes with hardware and figures of his own; it is not a kit of a tracked vehicle. The scale given matches the usual format of armor models, so the scene is easily joined to an existing collection.
The BT-7 belonged to the family of Soviet fast tanks derived from the running gear of the American engineer Christie. It excelled in speed and range, but counted as lightly armored, and in 1941 the units equipped with this hardware suffered heavy losses. The wrecks of abandoned machines therefore became a typical feature of period photographs, and modelers work them up as a subject to this day.
Restraint is the key. First darken the metal faces, then add a layer of orange rust and only at the very end fine graphite rubbing. Keep the surrounding soil in muted tones, so that the wreck remains the main point. You bring the burnt areas out with a matte black with a blue-violet cast, never with pure soot. Apply the dust from the bottom upward, because that is how it settles in reality as well.
A matter-of-fact treatment of the theme is in place: this is a modeling display of hardware, not a celebration of a war event.
