The Pz.Kpfw. IV was a German medium tank of the Second World War. It was produced practically throughout the conflict, went through a series of versions and was among the most numerous German tracked machines. The set is aimed thematically at a display with a destroyed tank, that is at a scene after combat.
The base is a ready terrain ground in 1:35 scale and sets the shape and the boundaries of the whole scene. With it, modeling soil falls away, so you can get straight into painting, aging and the arrangement of the hardware and the figures. A firm outline also holds the composition together and makes a finished diorama easier to carry and to display.
Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the base and sand the surface. Choose the paints and the glue according to the material of the base; the particular procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. A scene after combat lives on contrasts: churned-up ground takes a dark glaze drawn into the recesses, the raised edges a lighter dust, and where the wreck stands in the display, rust dosed with restraint gives the impression of the time that has passed in that place.
For modelers who build a Second World War diorama in 1:35 scale and want terrain with an event under their hardware instead of a bare board. Even a less experienced builder will manage it, because the most laborious part, shaping the terrain, is done.
