The Sd.Kfz.250 was a German light half-track armored personnel carrier of the Second World War. It served with reconnaissance and liaison units, carried a small squad and, thanks to the combination of front wheels and a tracked run, managed even in terrain where wheeled vehicles got stuck. The base is worked up as a display in which such a vehicle has ended up destroyed, that is as a moment stopped after a hit, not as running hardware.
The base provides ready terrain on which only the surroundings have to be settled. It works well as the center of a small vignette around which infantry, a reconnaissance patrol or civilians are arranged. Before you start, lay the whole thing out dry and try where the scene will be viewed from; arrange the small items accordingly, so that the display does not stay flat. Even the transition between the base and any further terrain out with the same material and the same pigments.
Cut any flash or casting lugs away with a sharp blade a little way from the surface and sand off the rest. Then wash the surface, degrease it and let it dry thoroughly, otherwise the paint will not take evenly. Apply the paint in thin coats from the darkest tone in the joints to the lightest on the edges. Broken metal takes a dark wash, a dry brush on the burrs and rust tones; the ground, on the other hand, is evened out with pigments and finally with dry grass or grit according to the season you want to capture.
The base is for modelers who want to display hardware or figures in a complete scene without building terrain from scratch. Figures, further hardware, paints, pigments and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
