The Endkampf base from RT-Diorama is diorama groundwork for 1:35 scale. The German name is used for the final phase of the fighting in Europe in 1945, when the engagements moved into the towns and into damaged building. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a setting into which the modeler places their own vehicles and figures.
Scenes from the last months of the war in Europe are among the most frequently built subjects in 1:35 scale, and there is a practical reason for that: damaged building gives a diorama a relief that an untouched street will never have. Broken walls, openings and heaps of rubble create natural screens behind which vehicles can be partly hidden, and that gives the viewer a sense of depth. The setting is also historically neutral in the sense that it will serve for the vehicles of both sides of the conflict and for a purely civilian view of a postwar town.
With rubble and ruins the key thing is to keep the scene readable. When it has relief everywhere, the eye has nowhere to settle, so leave at least one quiet area as a counterweight to the main action. Place the vehicles so that part of the scene overlaps them but their outline stays visible. Try the layout out dry and turn the base against the light, because a setting with relief changes substantially with every angle. It also helps to think the story of the view through in advance, so that it is clear where the action in the scene moves from and to.
