The figure 1:35 Diver from Black Dog brings a diver in 1:35 scale into modeling scenes, that is a subject intended for harbor and wreck displays.
Responsibility details are not available.
A diver in 1:35 scale. It opens up the underwater theme, which turns up in modeling only rarely, and yet it is exactly 1:35 that offers the most accessories for harbor and wreck displays. The underwater theme is at the same time an opportunity to break out of the usual earthy palette and work with blue-green tones.
Work alongside the side of a ship suggests itself, on the bottom by a wreck or at a harbor breakwater with a chain and a growth of algae. A cut through the water is effective too, where half the scene is above the surface and half below it; the viewer then compares both environments himself. An underwater display has the further advantage that the water hides small inaccuracies. The depth is suggested by the painting procedure as well: the lower below the surface, the cooler and less saturated the shade. A chain, an anchor or a crate on the bottom give the scene scale and keep it from looking empty.
Both the surface and the volume of water are best handled by clear acrylic gel applied in thin layers, and bubbles can be made from drawn sprue. Coat everything below the surface with gloss varnish and add a greenish glaze; only that makes the scene wet. Keep the growth of algae only where it would really settle, that is on the lower edges and in the corners. Before you start pouring, let both the figure and the surface dry out perfectly, otherwise cloudiness will show up in the layer.
