This is a figure of a donkey in 1:35 scale, that is, a small accessory for the scene. It is not a kit, but an animal on its own intended to complete a diorama, a display case or a base under the model. The figure is supplied unpainted.
Farm animals are among the most effective ways of giving a diorama credibility. A donkey by a field track, by the wall of a farm or beside a cart places the scene in a country setting at once and gives it the human dimension that hardware on its own lacks. At the same time the animal works as a guide to scale - the viewer uses it to judge the size of everything else without hesitating. In 1:35 scale the figure is big enough to make it worth taking care over the coat and the head.
First clean the figure up along the parting line and degrease it, then apply a thin primer. Build the coat from a darker ground up to lighter layers: leave the back darker and brighten the belly, the muzzle and the area around the eyes markedly instead - it is precisely this contrast that makes a donkey a donkey. Unify the transitions with a glaze of heavily thinned paint and pick out the edges with a dry brush. Paint the hooves and the eyes with a fine brush right at the end. Dust the legs with a pigment to match the surface of the scene and unify the whole figure with a matte varnish.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the base are not included in the package.
