This resin drive sprocket from the brand ELEFANT replaces the corresponding part on models of the Panzer IV medium tank in its F to H versions in the early rendering. The casting is worked out complete with details that are usually simplified on an injected part. It is an accessory for a plastic kit in 1:35 scale.
The drive sprocket is one of the most closely watched places on the running gear of a finished model, because it is fully exposed from the side and its teeth engage the track. An injection mold hits a limit here: a tooth has to have a draft angle, otherwise the part cannot be released from the mold, so it tends to be thicker and less legible. Cast resin allows a crisper tooth profile and finer relief on the hub and the bolt heads. The difference shows mainly from the side and from above, where the sprocket meets the track.
Alignment matters most. Clean the hole for the pin out with a micro drill and fit the sprocket dry; when the shaft is turned it must run without wobble, otherwise the deviation will show in the tension of the track and the whole running gear will look crooked. Also check that the plane of the sprocket matches the plane of the other wheels on the same side, best by looking along the hull. Wash the resin in lukewarm water with detergent before gluing, glue it with cyanoacrylate glue and, if the design allows, secure the pin only after the track is on. Deal with the painting together with the rest of the running gear; at the end come the dust and mud that build up most around the drive sprocket.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.
