Wheels for the standardized German Einheitsdiesel off-road truck in the Kfz. 61 version, 1:35 scale. The tread carries the off-road pattern of the second type of the Dunlop brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Einheitsdiesel was an attempt by the German army to replace a motley mixture of civilian chassis with a single type. From 1937 several factories built it in parallel to common documentation; it had drive to all six wheels, independent suspension and a diesel engine of around eighty horsepower. Its off-road capabilities were exceptional for their time, but so were the cost and the labor, and so production ended after several thousand examples as early as 1940. The Kfz. 61 version carried a signals body, and with it traveled from Norway to Ukraine.
The chassis left the gates with tires from several suppliers, and the individual patterns differ from one another so markedly that a vehicle can be placed by them in period photographs. This set carries the off-road pattern of the second type, as the Dunlop brand pressed it: coarse transverse blocks with a pronounced drainage channel down the middle. The wheel is in the rendering without the protective ring over the hub bolts.
The resin need only be freed of the casting remainder and the seating surface leveled. The tread will stand out if, once the base color has dried, a dry brush with a lighter shade is run over it; dust and mud then belong in the grooves rather than on the tops of the blocks, otherwise the vehicle looks as though it were standing in cement.
