This resin set from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel brings a fence on a masonry base in 1:35 scale. A seemingly ordinary element, but one that does a great deal of work in a diorama: it bounds plots of land, closes the composition and gives the scene civilian credibility.
A diorama without edges comes across as a slice without context; a fence gives the scene a natural boundary and at the same time leads the eye of the viewer. A base with a fence on it lined gardens, yards and suburban streets all over Europe, so the accessory fits into a civilian vignette as well as a wartime scene; a damaged or broken down stretch of fence can moreover tell of fighting better than many a crater. The element also works splendidly as a background for figures or parked equipment in 1:35 scale.
Wash the parts free of the mold release agent, remove the casting blocks with a saw and glue the segments with cyanoacrylate glue; keep an eye on the plane of the base on a sheet of glass. Paint the masonry with a light base, a wash in the joints and drybrushing along the edges, and set the fence panels apart with a shade of their own according to the material you have chosen for the scene. Dirt at the foot of the wall, moss and small vegetation will make the fence a natural part of the terrain.
