About product

1:35 Flakpanzer I Ausf. A — photo-etched set from Voyager Model

A photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale from the Chinese manufacturer Voyager Model, meant for the self-propelled anti-aircraft gun on the chassis of the Panzer I Ausf. A light tank. The set adds to the plastic kit the parts that cannot be made from injection-molded plastic at a scale thickness: thin sheet, brackets, eyes and small equipment. It is not a model of the vehicle; the basic Dragon 6220 kit has to be obtained separately.

The real subject

The Flakpanzer I came about by reworking the chassis of the Panzer I Ausf. A light tank, onto which a 20 mm automatic anti-aircraft gun with a low sheet-metal shield was mounted. It was an improvised solution for accompanying anti-aircraft cover of units, built in a small batch. That is exactly why the vehicle is interesting for modelers: it has an open superstructure, through which the fighting compartment can be seen, and a great deal of small external equipment.

Building and painting tips

An open superstructure means that the small photo-etched parts stay permanently on show. Break the smallest pieces out onto a scrap of adhesive tape with the sticky side up: the part will not wander off and will not spring away. Work with flat tweezers, because pointed ones often shoot a small photo-etched part off. Dispense cyanoacrylate through a pinhead, because a drop from the bottle is many times larger than you need for parts of this size. Degrease the assembled groups in an alcohol bath and lay on a thin coat of primer for metal, so that the engraving stands out and the edges are not lost.

Who the set is for

  • builders of German early wartime and improvised subjects in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who want to refine the open superstructure and the external equipment
  • more experienced builders used to handling very small parts
  • competition builds and dioramas with accompanying anti-aircraft vehicles

This is an add-on set, not a model. The plastic kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a photo-etched add-on set for the Dragon 6220 kit, which has to be bought separately.

A self-propelled 20 mm anti-aircraft gun built on the chassis of the Panzer I Ausf. A light tank.

Rather not. The parts are small and the open superstructure hides nothing. We recommend having at least one simpler photo-etched set behind you.

Cyanoacrylate in minimal amounts, ideally applied with a pin. Modeling cement for plastic does not work on metal.
