A figure of a French commando from the summer of 1944 in 1:35 scale from Dynamo-Models. Number one opens the marching line, which the brand is gradually extending with further turns and poses on this subject.
French commandos landed in Normandy on 6 June 1944 and went on advancing inland together with the Allied forces. They were set apart from ordinary infantry by a beret instead of a helmet, lighter field equipment and armament adapted to a fast advance. The figure is captured in stride with a load on its back, that is at a moment of movement, not of combat. A figure in a beret therefore stands out from the surrounding infantry in a scene at first glance.
The beret is the most striking area of the whole figure, so it pays to build it from a dark base toward a gently brightened rim and to leave it completely matte. The battledress blouse and the trousers keep to a muted khaki, enlivened by a transition to more faded shoulders. Set the straps apart with a lighter tone than the cloth. The straps pass over the blouse in several layers, so paint them from the bottom up and do not try to outline them in one go. Dust the boots and the cuffs of the trousers according to the terrain the figure is to walk on.
