About product

The French helmet M15 in 1:35 scale

A resin casting of the French steel helmet of the 1915 pattern in 1:35 scale. It is an accessory for figures, not a kit: the helmet is fitted onto a figure's head in place of the part out of the box, or else onto a head from another set of accessories. The casting renders the shape of the shell more cleanly than injected plastic, which tells on such a small part.

The real subject

The French helmet of the 1915 pattern, commonly designated the Adrian helmet, was the first steel helmet of its time to be introduced in series. It consisted of a pressed shell, a rim around the circumference and a crest fitted over the crown, which covered the ventilation opening. In the French army it stayed in service after the First World War as well and in slightly modified forms it was still used at the beginning of the 1940s; besides France, a number of other armies took it over. The shape of the crest and the rim is so characteristic of it that you will recognize it on a figure at first glance.

Fitting, cleaning up and painting

First wash the casting in lukewarm water with a detergent because of residues of the release agent. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw, level the surface with a file and sand it over wet with protection for your airways. When replacing the original helmet, cut it off the figure, sand the crown of the head down level and glue the new part on with super glue. Even the seam at the edge out with filler. It is painted over a thin base coat; the broken-up surface of the shell and the crest responds well to a wash into the recesses and a light accentuation of the edges with a dry brush.

Who the accessory is for

  • Conversions of figures of the French army in 1:35 scale
  • Dioramas from the period of the First World War and the turn of the 1930s and 1940s
  • Modelers who replace coarser plastic headgear
  • Completing figures of your own put together from parts

The accessory is supplied unpainted. The figure, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
