The set belongs to the figure range of Dynamo-Models and is in 1:35 scale. The subject is given in the plural in the name - French officers of 1940. This is a figure item meant to bring a finished model or scene to life, not a vehicle kit. A command motif is among the most rewarding subjects of all: two figures over an unfolded map or in conversation beside a vehicle create a story faster than the best weathering on a cargo bed.
The French army entered the campaign in May and June 1940 with a structure derived from the previous war. In the field officers could be told apart by the different cut of their uniform, by a map case and often also by headgear worn differently from the rank and file. Command in 1940 meanwhile took place largely on the spot and in person - radio communication was far from universal, so orders were passed from hand to hand, at a vehicle or at a crossroads. That is a situation which can be carried over into a diorama very faithfully.
With command motifs it is the direction of the gazes that counts. Place the figures so that they look at the same point - at a map, at a distant objective, at each other - otherwise the scene falls apart. When painting, separate the areas of the uniform from the accessories and leave a noticeable difference of color between them, so that they do not merge over a small area. The faces are helped by a darker tone in the eye sockets and under the brow. Finally even the whole group out with a gentle dust shade from the bottom upward, so that the figures read as part of the same terrain.
