The front door is a small scenic element meant for completing the facade of a building in 1:35 scale. The Ukrainian maker Spalah offers it as a separate casting, which is set into a wall built by your own hand or into a bought setting. This is therefore not a kit of a vehicle or of a building, but one particular architectural detail. It is precisely such elements that decide whether a scene comes across as credible.
The entrance to a house is the natural focus of a town scene: figures head for it, rubble piles up by it, gear is propped against the frame. The door will serve well in buildings of the Second World War as well as in a present-day setting, because the shape of ordinary house doors has not changed much over decades. It also finds a use in an interior section, where it forms the division between a room and the street.
First wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the remains from manufacture are removed, and let it dry out thoroughly. It is glued with super glue, or with epoxy. After the primer has been sprayed on, the wooden or metal texture comes out when you lighten the surface with a dry brush and bring out the panels of the door with a dark wash. A worn threshold and vertical traces of rain under the handle give the door its age.
