In a diorama a garage has one great advantage: it surrounds a vehicle from several sides and gives it a sense of size as well as a context, without taking up much room. An open gate moreover works as the frame of a picture, which leads the eye straight to the model. The setting fits civilian as well as military themes and will serve a veteran car, a motorcycle or light equipment just as well. A closed gate, on the other hand, allows the building to be made into a mere background of a wider scene.
