1:35 Gate V.

Gate V. 1:35 from Vertigo Miniatures — an accessory for a diorama

This is not a kit but a separate scenic item for a diorama or a vignette in 1:35 scale. The number V. marks one particular design from the numbered range of gates. Check the look of this design on the box.

What the accessory is for

An entrance or a passage is the place in a scene where attention naturally gathers. A whole story can be built around a gate: a vehicle brought to a halt, a figure on guard, tools leaning against the wall, a pile of crates. At the same time the gate divides the area of the base and gives the composition depth, because the viewer senses that space continues behind it out of sight. A ready-made item also saves long hours of building, and in 1:35 scale it goes with the widest choice of vehicles and figures.

Tips for fitting and painting

Try the part dry before gluing, check the vertical and cut any opening in the wall only to match the actual gate. Clean and degrease the surface, and carefully level any flash or casting remains with a file and fine abrasive paper. Choose the glue according to the material of the part and of the groundwork. In painting, start with a base coat, lay down an overall tone, bring out the texture with a dark wash and lift the edges with a dry brush. Pigments and grime belong above all at the foot of the gate and in the corners, where water and dust collect in reality; the upper edges, by contrast, should be left lighter, because the rain washes them.

Who the accessory is for

• for builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale
• for scenes with a compound, a yard or a boundary wall
• for modelers who want to build the action around a single item
• for combining with figures and vehicles in the same scale

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a base. The paints, glue and any further scenic material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
