A set of wheels for the Soviet GAZ-AA truck in 1:35, with the rims rendered in the form with five lightening holes.

The GAZ-AA came into being in Gorky as a licensed sibling of the American Ford Model AA, and from 1932 it became the most widespread truck of the Soviet Union. A load capacity of 1.5 tons earned it the nickname polutorka, that is the one-and-a-half-tonner, and it served the army for absolutely everything, from carrying ammunition through towing light guns to casualty evacuation. It lived through its most famous chapter in the winter of 1941, when columns of these vehicles drove over the ice of Lake Ladoga and brought food into besieged Leningrad.
The wheel disks went through several forms over the period of production and differed in the number of lightening cutouts. This set captures the rim with a set of five holes, that is the rendering belonging to the older and more carefully worked examples. For the modeler it is not cosmetics: the number of holes is perfectly distinct from the side of the vehicle and can be determined at first glance from a period photograph, so the choice of the right variant decides the credibility of the whole model.
Soviet vehicles tended to be shod in rubber of poorer quality, which quickly went gray and tore, so black paint would be overdone here. Choose rather a faded gray tone, rub the edges of the tread down and add flaking green to the disk. On a vehicle sunk in snow do not forget the crust of snow, which packed itself into just those holes in the rim.
