K-Am-S 39 Hodek is a small model of an object of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications in 1:1000 scale from the Czech maker ROP o.s.

The model captures an object of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications listed under the designation K-Am-S 39 with the period name Hodek. It is made by the Czech association ROP o.s., which has long specialized in models of the Czechoslovak border fortifications and runs a continuous, consecutively numbered series of dozens of objects in this scale. The 1:1000 scale is unusually small for plastic modeling: a finished object takes up only a few centimeters. It is therefore rather a collector's model and a building element for a landscape model than a conventional kit with an interior.
Infantry casemates were reinforced concrete objects of the continuous line of border fortifications that Czechoslovakia built in the second half of the thirties. They were not stand-alone forts but links in a chain: each object covered the flanks of its neighbors with fire from its embrasures and was itself protected by fire from them. It was set into the ground and turned so that the massive front wall without embrasures faced the enemy. Besides a number within its construction sector, each object was also given a name used in the construction and military documentation — hence Hodek.
In 1:1000 scale restraint is what counts. The base is a gray concrete shade, over which a dry brush a tone lighter works well to bring the edges out, with a dark wash run into the embrasures and the joints. Keep the weathering restrained — at such a small size strong effects read as dirt rather than as age. If a groundwork base is included, static grass, fine pigments and an honest difference between green growth and brown soil will bring it to life. Work on the small parts with tweezers and apply the glue with a stick or a thin piece of wire, so that it does not flood.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
