1:35 German 88mm Gun Flak36 w/6 anti-aircraft artillery crew members

German 88 mm Flak 36 with 6 figures (1:35, Border Model)

This injection-molded plastic kit captures the famous German 88 mm Flak 36 gun accompanied by six figures of the artillery crew. It is a new tooling with rich detail — the gun can be built in the firing position as well as on its travel carriage. The box contains photo-etched parts and, in this edition, a turned metal barrel with rendered rifling and a large decal sheet. It is a striking combination of a gun and a figure scene for a display case or a diorama.

The real subject

The 88 mm gun is one of the best-known German guns of the Second World War. Originally an anti-aircraft gun, it soon became famous as an exceptionally effective anti-tank weapon as well, able to destroy Allied tanks at long range. The Flak 36 version was a widespread production form and was fielded on all fronts — from North Africa through the Eastern Front to the defense of the Reich.

Building and painting tips

First assemble the gun carriage, the cruciform base and the elevation mechanism; fit the metal barrel at the end. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate and the plastic with liquid modeling cement. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush. A wash will emphasize the rivets and the mechanism, and a dry brush will pull out the edges. Build the crew figures separately — build up the flesh tone from a base skin color, separate the uniforms with a different tone and finish them with a wash. Dust and the worn finish of the gun are completed with pigments and a hint of chipping.
