An airbrush mask for the German Balkenkreuz in 1:35 scale from 1 Man Army. The insignia is sprayed directly onto the model, so the glossy edge of a decal film falls away.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of painting templates for spraying the German military Balkenkreuz insignia onto models of military vehicles in 1:35 scale. It is not a decal and not a model, but a self-adhesive mask: it is applied to the surface, sprayed over with an airbrush, and once it is lifted a crisply bounded insignia is left, sprayed in the same paint and with the same finish as the rest of the model. It is the Stencil variant; the brand also makes a form designated as Full.
In the period of the Second World War the Balkenkreuz was the basic identification insignia of German army vehicles and aircraft. On vehicles it appeared in several sizes and forms, from solid white areas to slim outline variants, and its form changed over the years. That is exactly why the masks are sold in several versions and why one sheet tends to carry the insignia in several sizes, so that it fits vehicles of different sizes.
The base has to be smooth, dry and degreased, otherwise the paint will creep under. Peel the mask off with tweezers, place it on the model and press the edges down firmly; on curved areas a brief warming with a hairdryer helps. Spray in several weak bursts perpendicular to the surface rather than in one heavy coat; that reduces the risk of seepage most. Lift the mask off while the paint is fresh but no longer tacky. Finally unify the insignia with its surroundings using matte varnish, a dust filter or a light rubbing back of the edges.
